Nearly three months after its firehouse was destroyed in a fire, the Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department has a new home. A garage-type structure at the intersection of U.S. Highway 160 and Missouri Highway 5 South is one of two recent real estate purchases by the city of Gainesville.

According to the Ozark County Times, the Gainesville City Council agreed to buy the structure from Loren Dean Hillhouse. City clerk Lisa Goodnight says the purchase price was $140,000. The former firehouse at Highway 160 and Highway 5 North originally was damaged by a flood in late April, and it burned down one month later.

The city also bought the former Amyx Auto parking lot on North Main Street opposite Gainesville City Hall from Don Amyx for $50,000. The purchase does not include the newer office building constructed on the property a few years ago. The city’s plans for the lot are currently unclear, but the Gainesville High School senior class will continue to use it as a fundraiser to offer prime parking spaces for the upcoming Hootin’ and Hollarin’ festival.
