The theft of a side-by-side utility vehicle has led to a Norfork man’s 22nd trip to the Baxter County Detention Center.
Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 38-year-old Nathaniel John Campbell was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into the theft of a utility vehicle from a Mountain Home RV dealership on September 17.
During the course of the investigation into the theft, the stolen side-by-side utility vehicle was determined to be in Campbell’s back yard at his residence along Hwy. 5 South.
After locating the stolen side-by-side at Campbell’s residence, investigators determined the vehicle identification number had been removed from the frame. The utility vehicle had been spray painted black on the outside, and both rear tires and rims had been removed and were damaged. Other alterations to the body and cab were noticeable. Estimated damage is in excess of $2,000. The vehicle was identifiable by pictures showing prior damage to the roof, glove box, and color. The inside of the hood had not been re-painted and revealed the original color. While inspecting the vehicle, a loaded .22 caliber rifle was found in the front seat.
Campbell has been charged with felony counts of theft by receiving, criminal mischief in the first degree, possession of a firearm by certain persons with the Norfork man being a convicted felon and altering or changing engine or other numbers.
Campbell’s bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Baxter Circuit Court to answer to the charges in October. Campbell’s latest arrest marks the 22nd time he has been incarcerated in the county jail since 2007.
Sheriff Montgomery says investigators have identified two additional suspects in the theft, and the investigation is ongoing.
