BERRYVILLE, Ark. (AP) A former sheriff in northern Arkansas won’t serve as a deputy in a neighboring county after at least one official expressed concern.
Carroll County Sheriff Randy Mayfield said Friday that he has “heard and respects” the concerns about hiring former Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck. Some of those concerns came from the local prosecutor.
As sheriff, Cradduck was accused of falsifying a payroll-request form and telling his assistant to lie about it to investigators. He pleaded no contest to a tampering charge and was sentenced to six months’ unsupervised probation.
KHBS-TV reports Mayfield said he spoke Friday with Cradduck, and they agreed it’s “in the best interest of all” that Cradduck not be a deputy in Carroll County.
A state commission voted 4-3 last month to allow Cradduck to keep his certification to be a law officer.
