The Big Bluff Trail is a level walk over the remains of the railroad tram built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to bring in steel and lumber from Cotter to construct Bull Shoals Dam. Once the trail crosses the paved road, it goes up the hillside to an area overlooking the White River, Bull Shoals Dam, and the Ozark hill country.
The Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail was constructed by the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club and offers both hikers and mountain bikers access to remote areas of the park. It traverses the oak-hickory upland forest. Along the trail are creek crossings, dirt roads, open meadows, long downhills and taxing uphills. Depending on the direction of travel, the loop trail allows users to choose from two levels of difficulty: Clockwise (marked with blue blazes)- moderately difficult with strenuous uphill slopes. Counter-clockwise (marked with green blazes)- moderately easy.
This Big Bluff Challenge is sponsored by Natures Way in Mountain Home Arkansas and Bull Shoals-White River State Park in Bull Shoals Arkansas. All proceeds benefit the North Central Arkansas Master Naturalists whose work helps to maintain and build trail systems in the Twin Lakes Area.
Participants are invited to stop by the campground pavilion at Bull Shoals-White River State Park Friday, October 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to pick up race packets. Packets can also be picked up the morning of the race from 8:00 to 8:30. The race starts promptly at 9:00.
