72nd Annual Turkey Trot kicks off Friday

The 72nd Annual Turkey Trot festival begins Friday at noon at the square in downtown Yellville and continues through 9:00 Saturday evening. Marion County Treasurer Ron McPherson is the Grand Marshall of Saturday’s Mid-Marion County Parade which kicks of in the morning at 10:00. The parade is one of the largest in Northwest Arkansas. Other events include a 5K Walk/Run, the Miss Turkey Trot pageant, and the Miss Drumsticks pageant, in which the winners are chosen while their faces and upper bodies are hidden.According to the Yellville Chamber of Commerce , Turkey Trot was conceived as a way to call attention to the region’s abundant wild turkeys. It’s also a time for family, friends and classmates to reunite and celebrate the local heritage’s food, music, art and decor.

After the opening ceremonies at noon, Friday, the Yellville-Summit and Flippin bands are scheduled to perform. At 1:00 the K through 12 Lip Sync Contest begins followed by a show from Illusionist and Magician Josh Farley. Music will wrap up the evening with the Mellow Mountain Band starting at 3:30 and J.R. Rogers and the Allstars taking the stage at 6:00 until the festival closes for the night at 9:00.
