Mountain Home School Board elects new officers

New officers were elected for the 2017-2018 school year in last night’s monthly meeting of the Mountain Home School Board.Erric Totty has this report.

With newly elected Dan Smakal assuming his position on the board, officers were selected in last night’s meeting. Neal Pendergrass was elected President. Pendergrass has served on the board for 18 years and has been a previous president, secretary and vice-president. Bill Wehmeyer was elected to serve as vice-president. Wehmeyer was first elected to the school board in 2007, served one term and then reelected in 2012. He has served as secretary. Arnold Knox was chosen to assume the secretary position. Knox has been a member of the board since 2014.

In other board news former board member Ben Strider and the Mountain Home Lions Club were recognized by the Superintendent of Mountain Home Public Schools, Dr. Jake Long, for their service. Strider received a plaque for his eight years of service to the board and the Lion’s Club was thanked for their donation of vision screeners to the school district.

Donna Blevins, Nelson Wilks Herron’s School Nurse was recognized by the Lion’s Club, saying she was instrumental in getting the vision screeners into the school system.

In other board news members heard a report from Dr. Gigliotti regarding the FlexPath Program expanding to provide services to grades K-7. The program provides digital learning to students with qualifying circumstances. Over 80 online courses are offered through the program.

The board also approved purchases for new doors for Guy Berry Career Academy and two new 77 passenger buses for the district.
