A playground now exists, for children caught in the cycle of domestic abuse, at the Twin Lakes Area’s only domestic violence shelter. A $25,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation for Serenity Inc. has finally come into fruition and blossomed into the new playground located in an enclosed area outside the shelter. The playground was a part of the original plan when the shelter moved to its new location at 1015 U.S. Highway 62 in 2014, however funding was not available. Children’s spirits are now lifted thanks to a visit from Michael Lindsey, Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations at Walmart, in July of 2016. Lindsey helped secure the funds last fall.

Serenity Inc. Board Member Fred Stang says even after funding was secure the project remained delayed.

Stang says the deck for the playground is made of composite wood, so it should last for many years to come.

The playground area is secure allowing children to play outside without fear from harm.

From October 2016 through September 2017, 27 children have been housed with Serenity Inc.

An opening is planned to thank those who contributed to the project.
