Firemen from two fire departments and the Arkansas Forestry Commission battled a brush fire Thursday afternoon west of Mountain Home covering 16 acres of grass and woods and threatening a home and storage building at 3731 West Road.

Forestry Commission County Ranger Scott Noble says the page for the fire came at 2:45.

Noble says the blaze began when debris from landscaping items being burned escaped, moving across a mowed field and into grass and woods. He says asphalt roads on either side of the blaze helped to contain it. He praised the effort of the firemen from Mountain Home and Midway who were able to contain the blaze on its west flank.

Noble says firemen were on the scene until 5:00.
