As Halloween will be celebrated Tuesday, it will be a night filled with kids in costumes on the local roadways. Safety of trick-or-treaters is the main concern every year for parents, motorists and law enforcement, and local and state officials have safety tips to share with the public.

The Arkansas Attorney General’s Office is echoing the sheriff’s tips with some additions. Leslie Rutledge advises for costumes, consumers should select flame-resistant materials, masks, beards and wigs and avoid baggy sleeves and billowing skirts. The attorney general also suggests using securely-fitting masks with adequate ventilation and unobstructed views, or consider applying make-up to children’s faces instead of loose-fitting masks. Swords, knives and other accessories should consist of soft and flexible material. In addition, another everyday safety rule parents should remind children of is not getting into cars or talking to strangers.
