Kenneth Hurst of Midway pled guilty to drug related charges during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last week and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

The 30-year-old Hurst was arrested in mid-July by a Baxter County deputy sheriff. According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, the deputy checked on the license plate of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix being driven southbound by Hurst on State Highway 126 and found the plate should have been on a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.

After getting that information, the deputy stopped the Grand Prix and was told by Hurst he had only recently purchased the vehicle and had not gone through the process of transfering the plate.

The deputy asked Hurst, who is on probation with a waiver on file permitting warrantless searches, to exit the vehicle so it could be checked. The deputy reported finding drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Among the items found were syringes, a scale with suspected methamphetamine residue and small plastic bags which the deputy described as “typically used to separate drugs offered for sale”.

In addition to the prison time, Hurst forfeited to the state $311 found in his wallet at the time of the traffic stop.
