
The postseason gets underway Friday for high school football in Arkansas. Five area schools will be in action when the opening week of the playoffs gets underway.
Three local schools will take part in the Class 3A State Playoffs.
Yellville-Summit will hit the road for its first postseason game in five years as they go to Atkins for the second time this year. The Panthers are the fourth-seeded team from the 3A-1 with a record of 4-6. The Red Devils are 8-2 after finishing the regular season as the runners-up from the 3A-4.
Melbourne will have home field advantage for its first round game as they meet Perryville. The Bearkatz are the number three seed from the 3A-1 with a record of 8-2. The Mustangs are the third-seeded team out of the 3A-4 with a mark of 7-3.
Mountain View will be on the road to start the postseason as they will be paired with Charleston. The Yellowjackets will go into the playoffs with a record of 3-7 as the number five seed from the 3A-1. The Tigers are looking for a return trip to Little Rock after finishing the season unbeaten as 3A-4 conference champions. Charleston advanced to last year’s state title game where they lost to Prescott.
Salem will be the visiting team in its first game in the Class 2A State Playoffs as they make the trip to Hector. The Greyhounds are the fifth-seeded team from the 2A-3 with a record of 4-5. The Wildcats finished the regular season in a three-way tie for the 2A-5 conference title as their record stands at 8-2. Hector won the tiebreaker for the top seed.
Harrison will go to Hot Springs to face Lakeside in the Class 5A State Playoffs. The Goblins at 7-3 ended the regular season in a four-way tie for the 5A-West conference championship, but after the tiebreaker, they ended up as the number three seed. Lakeside is the runner-up of the 5A-Southwest as their regular season mark was 6-4.
All games Friday kick off at seven p.m.
