Season starts Monday for MH swim, junior high basketball teams

Basketball and swimming make up the local Monday schedule.

The Mountain Home High School swim teams will be on the road to begin the 2017-2018 campaign. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will be in Paragould for the season opener.
Mountain Home’s girls are coming off a season in which they finished in a three-way tie for 16th place in Classes 7A/6A. The Bombers ended up 17th on the boys’ side.
Action begins at 5 p.m. at the Paragould Aquatic Center.

The season also gets underway for the Mountain Home freshmen basketball teams. The Junior Bombers and Junior Lady Bombers will be in Jonesboro for the Jack Moore Tournament at the Valley View School District.
Mountain Home’s girls will be paired with Brookland in the opening round. The Junior Lady Bombers are coming off a 15-5 season ending in the semifinals of the 6A-East Conference Tournament at Annie Camp Junior High School in Jonesboro with a loss to Marion. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30.
The Mountain Home boys’ record ended up being 10-11 a season ago. The Junior Bombers’ season ended in the first round of the conference tournament after falling to Marion.

In other junior high basketball, Viola will begin action in the First Community Bank Junior High Tournament at Southside Batesville, Salem hosts Calico Rock, Mammoth Spring travels to Brockwell to meet Izard County, and Melbourne makes the trip to Mountain View.

Two area high school girls’ basketball teams will be in Green Forest for the start of the Queens of the Court Tournament. Bruno-Pyatt meets Shiloh Christian at 5:20, and Marshall faces Greenland at 8:00.
