Yellville-Summit among 5 area football teams starting postseason

Five area high school football teams will continue to play as the playoffs get underway.

Yellville-Summit will hit the road for its first postseason game in five years. The Panthers will open the Class 3A State Playoffs at Atkins.
Yellville-Summit is the fourth-seeded team from the 3A-1 with a record of 4-6. The Panthers finished the regular season last week by winning the Battle of the Buffalo over Marshall. Atkins is 8-2 after finishing the regular season as the runners-up from the 3A-4. The Red Devils beat up on Perryville eight nights ago.
This will be the second time Yellville-Summit plays at Atkins in 2017. The Panthers finished non-conference play in week three by falling to the Red Devils 45-22.
Kickoff at Sorrels Stadium at Lemley Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Melbourne will be at home for its first game in the Class 3A State Playoffs. The Bearkatz will start the postseason by playing host to Perryville.
Melbourne is the number three seed from the 3A-1 with a record of 8-2. The Bearkatz are coming off a seven-point win at Greenland. Perryville is the third-seeded team out of the 3A-4 with a mark of 7-3.
Gametime at Bearkatz Stadium is set for 7:00.

Mountain View is also competing in the Class 3A State Playoffs this week. The Yellowjackets will be on the road as their first opponent is Charleston.
Mountain View is currently 3-7 on the year. The Yellowjackets wrapped up the regular season a week ago with a 20-point loss at Clinton. Charleston is looking for a return trip to Little Rock after finishing the season unbeaten as 3A-4 conference champions. The Tigers routed Mansfield last Friday.
Action gets underway at 7:00 at Alumni Field.

Salem will be traveling for its opener in the Class 2A State Playoffs. The Greyhounds will head toward the Arkansas River Valley as they open the postseason at Hector.
Salem is the fifth-seeded team from the 2A-3 with a record of 4-5. The Greyhounds’ last game was two weeks ago when they picked up an 18-point win over Midland. Hector finished the regular season in a three-way tie for the 2A-5 conference title and won the tiebreaker for the top seed as their record stands at 8-2. The Wildcats invoked the mercy rule at Quitman last Thursday.
Kickoff at Linton Field is slated for 7:00.

Harrison will head south for its opener in the Class 5A State Playoffs. The Goblins will go to Hot Springs to face Lakeside.
Harrison ended the regular season at 7-3 and in a four-way tie for the 5A-West conference championship, but after the tiebreaker, they ended up as the number three seed. The Goblins are coming off an 18-point win at home over Farmington. Lakeside is the runner-up of the 5A-Southwest as their regular season mark was 6-4. The Rams handed their inner city rival Hot Springs a four-touchdown loss last week.
Gametime at Chick Austin Stadium is scheduled for 7:00.
