Norfork among victorious schools on opening day of Arvest Bank Tournament

The Arvest Bank Tournament began Saturday in Flippin.

Norfork was able to win its opener on the boys’ bracket. The Panthers defeated Deer by a final of 39-23.

Mammoth Spring was able to edge out Western Grove 59-56. Sagen Godwin led the Bears with 32 points, and Daniel Mayfield added ten. Mammoth Spring improves to 5-2 on the season. Their next game in the tournament will be Wednesday against Deer. The Bears will host Cotter for district play on Tuesday.

Norfork was also victorious on the girls’ side. The Lady Panthers topped Bruno-Pyatt 79-7.

Yellville-Summit will be the Lady Patriots’ next opponent Wednesday in the consolation bracket. The Lady Panthers fell to Calico Rock 48-46. Yellville-Summit was led by Taylor McFarland with 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Mammoth Spring was able to win its girls’ game 82-32 over Deer. Whitlee Layne was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 28 points, Terra Godwin had 19, and Brianna Hocum chipped in 16. Mammoth Spring remains unbeaten in eight games on the season, and they’ll face Cotter Monday in the quarterfinals.
