A former NFL player is scheduled to make a visit to the Twin Lakes Area next month. Patient ambassador Kendall Simmons will moderate a discussion on diabetes in a school assembly December 6th at Dunbar Auditorium on the campus of Mountain Home High School.
Simmons was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 30th overall pick in 2002, and played nearly ten years in the NFL. He was diagnosed with Type I diabetes before his second season began in 2003. He was able to continue his career with assistance from team doctors and a support network, and he was a member of the Steeler team that won Super Bowl XL. Today, he partners with global healthcare company Novo Nordisk to raise awareness of the importance of managing blood glucose levels and to demonstrate how diabetes can be integrated into a patient’s life and ambitions.
The assembly hosted by Kristi Waddell and Jennifer Morrow is set for 1:00 for high school students and 2:00 for junior high. For more information, contact Reppell Diabetes Learning Center Coordinator Jodi Bodenhamer at 870-508-1765.
