A teenager is in custody after being accused of threatening to shoot up the Bakersfield School District campus. According to Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed, 19-year-old Derek Beavers was arrested Friday evening on a felony count of first-degree terroristic threatening. He is in the Ozark County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Beavers has allegedly stated he has an M16 rifle, an AK47 and numerous other weapons. Witnesses reportedly stated Beavers’ plans for the school had been going on since September. Sheriff Reed says this was the second call of this nature in the past week after another school reportedly received a similar threat.
The investigation is ongoing. Sheriff Reed complimented Bakersfield School District for following protocol and contacting his office after they were made aware of the threats.
