Just three months after being appointed to the Mountain Home Advertising and Promotion Commission by Mayor Joe Dillard, Dale Hoffman has submitted his resignation.

Hoffman was appointed by Mayor Joe Dillard in December to fill a four-year at-large position with the A&P Commission.

Hoffman told KTLO, 101.7 Classic Hits and The Boot news he was stepping down to avoid any potential conflicts of interest between his role as host of the Down on the Corner show with XL7-TV and candidates in the 2018 election cycle. Hoffman frequently interviews political leaders and candidates in his role as host. He says recent announcements from political candidates have led to a potential conflict of interest he wants to avoid.

Mayor Dillard says he accepted Hoffman’s letter of resignation earlier this week and has not focused on a replacement commission member at this point.

The Mountain Home City Council formed the Advertising and Promotion Commission in October 2013. Hotels began charging a 2 percent tax on January 14, 2014. The commission determines how the funds from the hotel/motel tax are spent.

In addition to the at-large appointment made by the mayor, the commission membership consists of four other positions appointed by the city council and two members of the city council. Of the positions appointed by the city council, three are hotel managers and one is a tourism industry representative.

The commission meets monthly on the third Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the chancellor’s suite of Roller Hall on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.
