The two have a combined tenure on the force of approximately 48 years.

Lieutenant Terry Johnson came from the Jonesboro area at the age of 15 when his family moved to Henderson. He is currently on his 34th year of service to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a reserve deputy at the Baxter County Jail. He moved on from the jail to patrol and from patrol to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He says despite the danger he sometimes faces, he loves his job and loves to help people. He says he tells people if he wanted to, he could arrest someone every day. He says helping people get their property back is what he likes to focus on instead.

Johnson says the support of his family, his wife and two children, has been the biggest factor in his success.

Success is something Sergeant Silas Gibson of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is also familiar with. He started at the department 14 years ago and now serves in the CID department. Although he’s a man of few words, he says he learned quickly he wasn’t just signing up for a job when he started. It was a lot more than that.
