The Pinkston Middle School Band is seeking fifth graders from Hackler Intermediate School to join its beginner band. Sign-ups are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 7:00 in the Pinkston band room.

All fifth grade students will have an opportunity to try different instruments and select a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument based on what they prefer and are best suited to play. There will be a limited number of school instruments available, and information will be available to parents on obtaining an instrument by the end of August.

Mountain Home High School band director Tom Chentnik says for those participating, there’s more to learn than simply playing an instrument and expressing one’s self through music.

There is no set number of students for the program, so all fifth graders at Hackler are welcome to try out. Students are encouraged to sign up this week to be registered for the fall, and it will give parents time to find an instrument.

Chetnik says there is proven research to show the positive effects on band participation.

Parents will be able to park in the circle drive in front of the old part of the building off College Street and walk up the sidewalk dividing the older and newer parts of Pinkston Middle School. For more information, contact Chetnik at 870-425-1215 or Rachel Moore at 870-425-1236.
