A Mountain Home resident, 19-year-old Caitlin Marie Mckenzie-Hopkins, was arrested Tuesday after being released from the Baxter County Detention Center just two days before. Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel says the latest arrest came after an incident occurring in early February. She is currently being held on drug charges with a $2,500 bond.According to Manuel, on February 6th the Mountain Home Police Department and 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force officers went to a residence on East 1st Street for a follow-up on a theft report. They encountered Anthony Scott Payne and Mckenzie-Hopkins. Payne is a current parolee with a search waiver on file.
Mckenzie-Hopkins was located in a bedroom and was unresponsive while Payne was sleeping on the couch. She was transported by ambulance to Baxter Regional Center for treatment. Officers located a wallet belonging to Mckenzie-Hopkins containing a plastic bag with a crystalline substance. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Mckenzie-Hopkins allegedly admitted to officers over the phone the substance was indeed methamphetamine and is what she had used the night before.
The previous arrest took place Sunday after a call came into MHPD advising Mckenzie-Hopkins was under the influence of drugs and had a child with her. An officer located her driving a vehicle near the intersection of East 9th and College Street. The vehicle was left of center with the driver’s side tires into the oncoming lane of traffic.
A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. The officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle with Mckenzie-Hopkins’ 11-month-old daughter in the back seat.
Mckenzie-Hopkins allegedly informed the officer she did have some marijuana in the vehicle and pointed to a plastic bag in the driver’s door. She also handed him a marijuana “roach” from the ash tray.
Mckenzie-Hopkins was placed under arrest and the child was turned over to her grandmother.
According to the arresting officer, after completing a couple of tests she did show signs of impairment, but not enough to pursue a DWI drugs charge.
Mckenzie-Hopkins now faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court.
