Lakeview resident Doug Stephens has announced his candidacy for Baxter County District 1 constable in the May 22nd primary election. Stephens, a Republican, will be seeking his first two-year term. The position is currently held by David Witherington who is seeking re-election.

Stephens served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a military police officer and radio operator. He served in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. In 1971, Stephens transferred to the U.S. Army, where he served as a biomedical equipment technician (BMET) until 1988 when he was promoted to the position of consultant in biomedical instrumentation in the U.S. Army’s Surgeon General’s office. Stephens was honorably discharged.

He is a member of the Twin Lakes Marines, VFW Post 1341, DAV #30, Elks 1714, and the Eagles 3183. He is the chairman/founder of Stephens International Recruiting, Inc., a healthcare recruiting firm in Lakeview.

Stephens and his wife, Cindy, have lived in Lakeview since 1999 and have been married for 40 years.

He says he has had the privilege to serve his country for 28 years in the military and now would like to serve his township and surrounding areas in District 1. When elected, Stephens says he will always be available to perform the duties of constable.
