One of two men who fled from a Fulton County Sheriff’s Department sergeant is in custody after he was located under logs in a dozer deck by the prison dog tracking team from the North Central Unit in Calico Rock.

Fulton County Sheriff Al Roork says Wednesday afternoon two men on a four-wheeler on Mount Calm Road in western Fulton County were stopped by his officer. The two produced their identification upon request.

As the sergeant was running their identification through dispatch, one of the two, 39-year-old Larry Joe Herring, Jr. of Izard County ran into the woods. It was then discovered he had an outstanding felony state warrant for parole absconding.

Sheriff Roork requested assistance from the prison for its dog tracking team. About 20 minutes after beginning pursuit, a dog located Herring. He was taken into custody without further incident and is incarcerated in the Izard County Jail without bond. Roork says Herring also has a warrant for failure to appear on original charges of arson, possession of methamphetamine intent to use and possession of marijuana.
