A Viola man, 33-year-old Michael Klem, has been charged with five felony offenses following a domestic incident with a loaded .22 caliber rifle while three children were present.
According to the affidavit for arrest, Klem and his wife got into a heated argument April 5th over the Viola man wanting to locate some marijuana. The argument escalated to the point Klem secured his .22 rifle and loaded it.
After loading the weapon, Klem began carrying it around and later pointed it at himself, acting as if he were going to use his foot to pull the trigger. He is then alleged to have set the gun against the wall, as he continued to argue with his wife.
As one of the children went toward the gun, Klem’s wife moved it to keep the minor from getting the weapon. As she moved toward the gun, Klem head-butted her, with the impact leaving a large knot on her left eyebrow and engorging the eyelid with blood.
Klem then left the residence with the gun, but not before kicking the rear passenger side door of his wife’s vehicle.
He has been charged with felony counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, possession of firearms by certain persons, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
Klem has two felony convictions in Arkansas, one of which is a violent aggravated assault felony. With the convictions, he is prohibited from possessing or being in direct contact with firearms.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he is directed to have no contact with his wife and the minor children.
