Credit: Kevin NixonYes recently announced dates for a 50th anniversary tour of the U.S. taking place in June and July, and now the other version of the prog-rock band — Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman — has unveiled plans for its own trek to mark the milestone.
The outing, dubbed Quintessential Yes: The 50th Anniversary Tour, is expected to feature a total of 100 concerts and will visit Europe, North America, South America, Japan and the Far East before winding down next year. So far, only 10 U.S. dates have been confirmed, running from August 26 gig in West Hollywood, California, through a September 9 show in Huber Heights, Ohio. More concerts will be announced soon.
The U.S. portion of the trek will launch with a special show at the famed Sunset Strip club The Whisky a Go Go, the same venue where Yes gave its first stateside headlining performance back in June 1971. The 50th anniversary tour will kick off with a European leg beginning June 3 in Warsaw, Poland.
As the group’s name suggests, Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman is led by three key Yes alumni: founding frontman Jon Anderson, and longtime keyboardist Rick Wakeman and guitarist Trevor Rabin.
In conjunction with the tour, a new archival compilation called Quintessential Yes 50th Anniversary, curated by Anderson, will be released in August as a two-CD and three-LP set.
In addition, a live CD and DVD documenting a March 2017 concert by Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman in Manchester, U.K., is due out in August or September. Meanwhile, the group’s also working on brand-new music that’s expected to be ready for release in late 2018 or early 2019.
