Credit: Al PereiraMany Kinks fans probably have given up hope that the band’s historically quarrelsome Davies siblings, Ray and Dave, will collaborate together again, but Dave tells ABC Radio that he has eventual plans to meet with his brother to discuss a possible new project.
“Me and Ray spoke a couple of months back, and I’m going to go back to the U.K. at some point…I’m not sure exactly when,” reveals Dave, whose current U.S. solo tour winds down this Saturday, April 21, with a show in Medina, Minnesota. “And we’re going to get together and try and work on some stuff. So we’re getting along all right.”
Regarding his most recent conversation with Ray, Dave says, “We talked about making some sort of video and performance, or, like, streaming. And we talked about refurbishing some old Kinks songs that we could mess around with and maybe turn them into something. [I]t’s a few alternatives that we got in mind.”
Dave tells ABC Radio that he wouldn’t mind if he and Ray revisited the demos of four or five song ideas they worked on a few years ago.
“I still got them on my computer,” he points out. “I go back to them now and again, [and think,] ‘Hmm, could be good.’ So it’s not over till it’s over.”
Having said that, the 70-year-old guitarist notes that both he and his older brother remain busy with their own solo projects.
Dave’s tour finale on Saturday will feature an opening set by Joey Molland’s Badfinger. He also has a show tonight, April 19, in Waukegan, Illinois, with supporting act The Smithereens. That band will feature guest singer Robin Wilson of The Gin Blossoms stepping in for late frontman Pat DiNizio, who died in December at age 62.
