Arvest Bank, along with Shred-it, the nations largest provider of on-site shredding services, will host the ninth annual Shred-A-Thon beginning Saturday morning, from 10:00 to 1:00 in the afternoon at the Arvest Bank branch located at 2619 Highway 62 East in Mountain Home. Businesses and the general public are invited to bring any personal or confidential documents in need of proper disposal, to help guard against identity theft. All documents will be shredded on-site so residents can be assured the documents have been destroyed.
Although shredding services are offered free of charge, participants are invited to make a monetary donation to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas. Donations help provide food for the organizations backpack program and to other organizations across North Central Arkansas operating a backpack program in conjunction with the food bank.
Backpack programs provide snacks for school children on weekends when they dont have access to school meal programs. In Baxter County alone, more than 600 children benefit from the backpack program. The Food Bank of North Central Arkansas serves tens of thousands of families across a nine-county area.
Market President of Arvest Bank in Mountain Home Sally Gilbert says at this time of year donations begin to run thin at area food banks. Arvest is trying to help stock the shelves before the increased demand during the late spring and summer months.
In 2017, 20,000 pounds of paper were shredded at the event and cash donations provided 11,420 meals through the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas. This is the ninth year for the Shred-A-Thon. Since 2010, more than 63,000 pounds of paper have been shredded and recycled. In addition, more than $12,264 has been raised for the Mountain Home community.
KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot will broadcast live from the Shred-A-Thon from 10:00 to 12:00 Saturday morning, with an opportunity for listeners to open the stations popular treasure chest. There is a limit of five boxes per household for shredding.
