Norfork art students received a large number of first place awards at the Arkansas Young Artist Competition held at the State Convention Center in Little Rock this April. Norfork High School art teacher Noel Cole says there were approximately 1,500 students state-wide participating in this years’ competition.

Each student was allowed to submit up to five pieces of artwork.

The visual art contest offers K-12 students in Arkansas the chance to display their creativity. The theme this year is “Wildlife of Arkansas”. It acknowledges the natural beauty of the state and provides inspiration for students to explore their artistic abilities. Two Norfork students placed second in the wildlife category.

Students across the state submitted artwork to be judged on creativity, skill and interpretation of the theme. A panel of professional artists choose 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable mentions for each grade. Each award is accompanied with a cash value and a certificate.

The exhibit begins at the Witt Stephens, Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center and travels to each Arkansas Game & Fish Nature Center across the state.
