Mountain Home Public Schools will host its second annual Bomber Instructional Technology Summit (B.I.T.S.)Friday at Hackler Intermediate School. The daylong professional development event will provide MHPS educators with innovative instructional technology training. The summit features speakers, workshops, and demonstrations. The day starts with a keynote speech from Tyler Tarver, an educational technology expert with a host of experiences reaching 21st century learners. Tarver, who has authored three books while also teaching and serving as an administrator, will share ways for educators to use creativity and positivity as they meet their students’ needs.

After the keynote, MHPS educators will choose different topical sessions to attend throughout the day. The sessions are taught by educational experts from across the country, state, and local area. Technologically experienced teachers and students in the district will also lead some of the sessions.

When teachers pre-register for the sessions through the B.I.T.S. online event platform, they are able to read descriptions of the events, and the sessions are color-coded for level of difficulty. Some of the session titles include Virtual Reality Demo, Improve Your Game Plan with Google, Learn to Code with iPad, and From Zero to Hero: Integrating Technology Into the Classroom.

In the past, teachers in the district have had to travel to more populated areas to receive high-quality technology professional development. The district’s Instructional Technology Specialist, Rosemary Thomas, and the district’s Director of Technology, Chris Knight, worked together with the goal of bringing the high-quality training to Mountain Home.
