Daniel Ray Rice of Mountain Home has pled guilty to charges stemming from a bizarre incident on July 10th, 2016 in which a nude Rice was reported to be attempting to break into a house, making growling sounds, “talking out of his head” and swinging on a guy wire.
Rice entered his plea during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday. It was announced he had paid the total amount of restitution for damages he did to the victim’s property during the incident.
The 29-year-old Rice was sentenced to 12 months probation on misdemeanor charges, including criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
While the incident took place in July, Rice was not jailed until February 25th, 2017. Rice’s attorney said at the time his client had been in a rehabilitation program. His whereabouts were also unknown to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office for a period and was listed as a wanted person.
When deputies arrived at the residence to investigate the original complaint, they reported seeing a person later identified as Rice standing on top of a fence and swinging on a guy wire. Rice was said to have been “sweaty and breathing rapidly.” At one point, he appeared to have lost consciousness, an ambulance was dispatched and Rice was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The occupant of the residence, located along County Road 27, reported to deputies Rice attempted to enter her home, but she refused him entry. He was then reported to have removed his clothing and tried getting into the home by pulling the back sliding door off its tracks. He also attempted to remove metal siding on the back porch, as well as damaging a screen doorframe and doing extensive damage to an air conditioning unit, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The property owner estimated the damage at about $4,000 according to one initial report.
According to the affidavit, when deputies checked Rice’s vehicle, they found a used syringe stabbed into the driver’s seat, along with a spoon and cotton ball — items often used in the ingestion of methamphetamine.
