
Saturday’s baseball and softball action included local high school teams in regional action.
The Class 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament got underway at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
Viola secured a state tournament berth in the first game. The Longhorns shut out Ridgefield Christian 14-0. Viola will face Hillcrest in Monday’s semifinals.
Mammoth Spring watched its season come to an end as they fell to Bay by a final of 5-2. The Bears’ final record is 12-13.
Izard County was also one and done in the tournament. The host Cougars lost to Armorel 11-1.
Omaha finished the week as champions of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison.
The Eagles began the day by winning the first semifinal 11-0 over Shirley. The second game ended with Lead Hill losing to Alpena 11-1.
Omaha took the next game 15-9 over Alpena to take the first place trophy. Lead Hill finished in third place as they won the final game of the day 15-8 over Shirley.
Izard County also began hosting the Class 1A Region 2 Softball Tournament on Saturday.
Viola will join their baseball counterparts in the state tournament after their opening round win. The Lady Longhorns blanked Bay 15-0.
Izard County was eliminated in earlier action. In a battle between Lady Cougars, Izard County fell to Rector 2-0. Rector will be Viola’s opponent in the semifinals on Monday.
Omaha’s softball team won the title of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament in Harrison.
Saturday’s action began with Lead Hill beating Shirley 16-6 in the first semifinal. The Lady Eagles took the second game 6-2 over Rural Special.
The championship game followed and ended with Lead Hill falling to Omaha 4-1. The third place game was the final game of the tournament as Rural Special topped Shirley 10-3.
Salem ended the Class 2A North Regional Tournament in fourth place at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto. The Lady Greyhounds were edged out by the host Lady Warriors 2-1.
