
ABC/Alfonso BrescianiAlabama native Lionel Richie will be honored this December by Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences.
Richie’s honor is part of the International Quality of Life Award, which the College of Human Sciences established in 1994 to recognize those who have “made significant and lasting contributions to individual, family and community well-being locally and around the world.”
Specifically, Lionel will receive the 2018 IQLA Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to individuals “whose character, professional achievements and humanitarian outreach have brought distinguished recognition to Auburn University and/or the state of Alabama and beyond.”
Past winners have included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Apple CEO Tim Cook, NBA legend Charles Barkley and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
The award will be presented December 3 at the United Nations in New York. Auburn University is located in Auburn, Alabama.
