Angie Lynn McChristian of Mountain Home pled guilty to charges stemming from her borrowing a vehicle and failing to return it. She was given three years probation and ordered to pay $200 in restitution during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the 38-year-old McChristian approached the victim telling him her cousin had been in a car accident, and she needed to borrow his vehicle so she could check on the relative’s condition.

The victim reported when McChristian failed to return the vehicle, he began texting her with no response. The victim contacted another relative of McChristian’s and was told no one in the family had been involved in a traffic accident.

When Gassville police made contact with McChristian, she said she had left the car at the bus depot in Harrison and was leaving the state. She said she was leaving the day of the contact. Officers with the Harrison Police Department began watching for her at the bus stop, but she failed to appear.

The victim then made two trips to Harrison to see if he could find his vehicle with no luck. After his trips to Harrison, the victim was driving by the post office in Mountain Home when he saw his vehicle in the parking lot. He had an extra key and took possession of the vehicle.

Gassville police again contacted McChristian, and she said she had been driving around drunk, “got paranoid” and parked the vehicle, since she did not want to break the law by driving while intoxicated. McChristian reported she had decided to abandon the vehicle and threw the keys into the bushes at the post office.

She was arrested and charged with felony theft by deception and driving on a suspended license, a misdemeanor.
