Former journalist announces run for MH City Council

A longtime journalist in Mountain Home has announced he will run for a position on the Mountain Home City Council. Jim Bodenhamer, who spent 34 years as news director at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, is seeking the Ward 4, Position 1 seat on the council in the November general election.

Bodenhamer says he is concerned about the Twin Lakes Area, which seems to have a hit a plateau in growth and economic development. He says it is important for the area, especially its county seat, to continue to be progressive in its outlook.

Bodenhamer says he is familiar with the workings of government, having covered numerous Mountain Home and other city council meetings, as well as various aspects of municipal, county, school and state government as a journlist.

The 71-year-old Bodenhamer retired from radio in 2013. Prior to working in radio, he was the associate editor and columnist for the Baxter Bulletin newspaper. He is a graduate of Mountain Home High School and earned a degree in journalism from Arkansas State University.

Bodenhamer also served 34 years in the U.S. Army, including three years active duty and 31 years in the Arkansas Army National Guard, retiring as a captain in 2006. His tenure included service in the Global War on Terrorism with the 224th Maintenance Company of the guard in Mountain Home, as well as serving as commander of the local guard unit during its overseas deployment to Korea.

Since his retirement, Bodenhamer has worked as a part-time substitute teacher in the Mountain Home School District and volunteers at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County and Hospice of the Ozarks.

He was recently reappointed by the mayors of Baxter County to the five-member Baxter County Tax Equalization Board.

The Ward 4, Position 1 seat on the Mountain Home City Council is currently held by Dave Almond who has announced he will be a candidate for mayor of Mountain Home in November.
