Forestry expansion project considered in Ozark and Taney counties

An integrated resource project called Big Creek is being considered by Mark Twain National Forest officials northwest of Theodosia.

KOLR TV reports the project area is in a section designated in the 2005 Mark Twain National Forest’s Forest Plan for natural restoration. The project area encompasses 36,875 acres in Ozark and Taney counties, approximately 5 miles northwest of Theodosia and 13 miles southwest of Ava.

A meeting will be held June 22 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Ava Lions Club. A field tour starting at the Caney Picnic area will be offered starting at 9:00 a.m. June 23.
