Mountain Home City Council member Jennifer Baker announces she is seeking re-election to the Ward 2, Position 1 seat she holds. Baker has served on the Mountain Home City Council for 22 years. She is chairperson of the water/wastewater committee and also serves on the personnel and public safety committees. Baker previously served on the admin, street and parks committees.
Baker has a masters degree in social work and is retired. Her career included 20 years with the Arkansas Department of Human Services as a supervisor with children and family services and as a civilian child abuse investigator with the Arkansas State Police.
Baker is involved in various community activities, including serving as vice president of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society. She is past president of the Mountain Home Kiwanis Club. She serves as an ambassador for the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce and is a reserve deputy for the Baxter County Sheriffs Office. She is a volunteer at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She is also the media relations coordinator for the North Central Arkansas Chapter of Operation Christmas Child. Baker attends Christ Community Church, where she is the onsite event manager for the upcoming Leadership Summit. Baker won the Jim Gaston Tourism Award in 2015 at the chamber of commerce’s annual banquet for her volunteerism.
Baker has two daughters, Tracy Tilley and Kelly Baker-Hefley, and three grandchildren.
Baker says from her community activities, one can tell she loves to get involved and make a difference. She says she loves Mountain Home, where she grew up and raised her children.
She says there will be several new council positions open this election, and it is important to re-elect existing council members to provide continuity and institutional knowledge.
