
When others run out, dedicated firefighters run in whenever their communities call. In its continuing series, KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot highlights the work of dedicated professionals as part of our Salute to Service series. In this edition, the brave work of local volunteer firefighters who respond to the needs of their communities is recognized.Among the many brave volunteer firefighters across the Twin Lakes Area responding to the page day and night, 24/7 are Lucy Soltysik and Christy Dewey.
Soltysik has been a volunteer firefighter for 18 years and is currently the assistant chief at Clarkridge.

Dewey has been a volunteer firefighter for 10 years and says it was witnessing emergency responders in action that lead her to volunteer as a firefighter.

According to reports from local fire departments, the number of firefighters has continued to decline over the past few of years, leaving local stations in desperate need of volunteers. The older generation of volunteer firefighters is moving on, and fresh faces are needed to fill their boots. Those wishing to volunteer should contact their local fire station.
