Five contestants from North Central Arkansas are competing this week to represent the Natural State at the Miss America pageant by securing the crown of Miss Arkansas.
One of the five, Alexis Ungerank of Mountain Home, has picked up two preliminary competition awards.
Ungerank, competing as Miss Lights of the Delta, won the Preliminary Artistic Expression in Talent Award Tuesday, the opening night of the 81st Annual Miss Arkansas Pageant in Little Rock.
For winning Talent, the 19-year-old Ungerank received a $2,000 scholarship donated by the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation.
For her talent, Ungerank performed a musical theater dance to Let Me Entertain You.
Miss Arkansas Alpha Awards were also given out Tuesday. These are presented to first-time Miss Arkansas contestants garnering the most points in their respective groups each night.
Ungerank was one of the two Alpha Award winners for her artistic expression in talent. She received a $500 scholarship.
Ungerank’s platform is Kids Get Cancer Too.
Samantha Shelley of Mountain Home is competing with her platform of Fed Up with Hunger. The 21 year old won the North Central Arkansas preliminary pageant qualifying her to compete for the Miss Arkansas crown.
Three other contestants among the 44 vying for the crown are from Harrison.
Madison Oswalt’s platform is That’s Not Love. The 19 year old won the Arkansas Tech University preliminary pageant.
Ebony Mitchell of Harrison is competing on the platform of S.A.F.E. Connections. The 21 year old won the Central Arkansas preliminary pageant.
TaylHensley of Harrison won the Ozark Mountain preliminary pageant. The platform of the 20 year old is Building Healthy Habits, Living Healthier Lifestyles.
The crowning for Miss Arkansas is scheduled for Saturday evening at 7:30. Channel 7 is airing the final night of the Miss Arkansas pageant.
