Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel has confirmed his office and the Arkansas State Police are investigating a Wednesday evening vehicle accident in downtown Mountain Home that has claimed the life of an unborn child.

The accident reportedly occurred between the courthouse square and the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 62B.

Chief Manuel told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news the unborn child involved in the accident has died in Little Rock.

The investigation includes criminal investigators and patrol officers from the MHPD working with ASP to reconstruct the accident.

Chief Manuel says it appears alcohol was not involved, and the driver was not arrested. However, blood was taken from the driver and will be sent to the state crime lab for analysis.

Once the investigation is complete, information will be forwarded to the county prosecutor for his review to determine whether any charges related to the accident should be filed.

No other details surrounding the accident have been made available.
