The Mountain Home School Board held its June meeting Thursday night and approved the purchase of over 1,200 Chromebooks for students in the district. In a unanimous vote, the board voted to spend just over $284,000 for 1,246 of the laptop computers for students to use for their school work. Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says the purchase will mean each student in the district will have access to a Chromebook.

The Chromebooks are expected to arrive in time for the start of classes in August as long as they are not back ordered.

The board approved a bid to upgrade the bathrooms in the 200 hall and commons area at the high school and in C hall at the junior high. The upgrades will extend the current divider height between stalls and add stronger doors to add additional privacy and help reduce vandalism.

The board voted to raise the hourly minimum wage for classified employees from $8.50 per hour to $8.65 per hour. This coincides with the increase in the minimum wage in Arkansas effective July 1st.

The board also voted to appoint Leah Cotter as District Treasurer to replace Ann Harned who is retiring at the end of the month. Cotter has already been hired to be Harned’s replacement as the District Financial Manager.
