First sales tax collections reported for jail expansion as overall dollars slip

After an up month in May, the June sales tax numbers for Baxter County show a slight decrease from the same month last year. The numbers, reflecting sales tax collected in April, are down from June 2017, according to Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize.

Mize adds the county also received extra revenue for construction on the detention center.

The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities. Mountain Home leads the way with $162,264, but that is a decrease of 0.85 percent from the same time last year. The city’s sales taxes totaled $147,199 for an 11.8 percent decrease from the previous year.

Elsewhere, Gassville collected $27,087 from the county, Cotter received $12,644, Lakeview got $9,659, Norfork collected $6,661, Salesville received $8,865, Briarcliff netted $3,076 and Big Flat received $1,355.
