RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Police in Arkansas say a man who shot at a bail bondsman was later shot and killed by officers at an apartment complex near the Arkansas Tech University campus in Russellville.
Russellville police say the 37-year-old man came out of the apartment at about 2:15 a.m. Friday and opened fire on officers, who returned fire and killed him.
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
Police say officers were called shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday after the man barricaded himself inside the apartment about one block from the edge of the ATU campus.
Surrounding apartments were evacuated and Arkansas Tech said in a statement residents were housed temporarily on campus, then later taken to an off-campus hotel.
ATU said the campus is open and operating normally on Friday.
