Cotter City Council adopts NARCAN, canine policies

The Cotter City Council meeting in regular session Thursday evening opened with a moment of silence regarding the recent deaths of former member Gil Stammer and Arkansas Municipal League Director Don Zimmerman.

Mayor Peggy Hammack says the council approved a NARCAN policy for the city’s police department.

Mayor Hammack says the city’s police officers are in the process of obtaining the new weapon for their arsenal to combat opioid overdoses.

In other business, Mayor Hammack says the council also approved an updated canine policy.

Mayor Hammack says she brought to the council the item of extending the city’s water boundary up Denton Ferry Road for approximately 3 miles.

Mayor Hammack says the city received its 2017 water audit report, noting no deficiencies.

She told the council the ductile iron wastewater treatment line project was closed and completed.

She reported the in-house street paving work was completed at an approximate cost of $52,500.

Street department employees will be exploring a loan through the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission to replace old water meters.

American Legion Post #23 representative Linda Reed presented Alderman Wayne Alexander a plaque in appreciation for his volunteer gardening efforts for the city.

It was announced a World War I and Arbor Day ceremony is set for September 21st.

Mayor Hammock also reported she is looking at playground equipment for Big Spring Park.
