ST. LOUIS (AP) – As if a scratch from the “Rally Cat” wasn’t enough, now a St.
Louis Cardinals groundskeeper has a bonk on the head from an errant ceremonial
pitch.

Lucas Hackmann first gained notoriety last season when he captured a cat that
scurried onto the field at Busch Stadium, only to have the frightened feline
sink its nails into his hand.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina homered on the next pitch, and the cat was
dubbed the “Rally Cat.”

On Sunday, Hackmann was helping with stenciling of text behind home plate while
a man tossed a ceremonial “first pitch” before the Braves played the Cardinals.
The throw sailed high and outside, beyond the reach of the catcher. It smacked
Hackmann on the head.

Fortunately, it was a soft toss. Hackmann was fine.
