LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission is
considering hiring a consultant to review about 230 applications for dispensary
licenses, a move intended to allay public concerns about its licensing process.
The commission voted Monday to explore such a hire and will meet July 12 to
review options and discuss potential rule changes. The move could delay the
launch of the state’s medical marijuana program, which voters approved in 2016.
The decision follows a state Supreme Court ruling that reversed a lower-court
order that blocked the panel from licensing five businesses to grow marijuana.
The panel had halted dispensary application reviews until the challenges to
the cultivation licenses were resolved. The commission can’t proceed on the
cultivation licenses until the Supreme Court ruling formally takes effect next
week.
