The entertainer’s rendition of “Fernando,” from the soundtrack of the upcoming movie musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, has debuted on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart at #22. The tune features Cher duetting with actor Andy Garcia, who plays a character named Fernando in the sequel to the hit 2008 film adaptation of the satghe musical Mamma Mia! Cher portrayd Ruby Sheridan, the mother of Meryl Streep‘s character, Donna.
The song marks Cher’s return to this chart for the first time since 2014, when she reached #17 with “I Hope You Find It.” Over the years, she’s hit the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart 14 times, with hits including “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “After All” and “Believe.”
The original ABBA version of “Fernando” hit #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1976, while peaking at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The soundtrack of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again arrives July 13. As previously reported, based on comments made on Twitter, Cher appears to be working on an entire album of ABBA songs, which she hinted will be out in September.
