For the third time this year, the Gassville City Council will consider an appointment for a fire chief when it meets Tuesday evening at 6:30 for its regular monthly session.

The city has been seeking a new chief since Christy Dewey, who had held the position for just under three months, tendered her resignation in a surprise announcement at the end of the council’s June meeting. Dewey said she was seeking to return to her EMS career at Baxter Regional Medical Center in a full-time capacity.

Dewey began her duties as fire chief in March, after she was hired to replace former Chief Bill Johnson who retired.

Dewey was named to the position after Buford resident Will Syfrett, who had been selected as the city’s new chief, decided not to accept the position.

Mayor Jeff Braim declined to provide the name of the individual he will be recommending to the council to fill the vacancy.

The council is also set to consider a name for the street south of the Main Street traffic signal, as well as an appropriation for construction of the roadway.

The agenda also includes discussion of a lease agreement for U.S. Highway 62/412 building and property.

The meeting will be held at the Gassville Community Center at 204 South School Street.
