A Mountain Home man, 34-year-old Brandon Cooper, with four active criminal cases, is being held without bond following his arrest Sunday evening in a reported stolen vehicle.According to the probable cause affidavit, officers were alerted to the theft of the vehicle from a residence along Dryer Street in Mountain Home about 5:41 Sunday evening.
Dispatch advised Cooper was a suspect in the case and could be headed to Midway. A Mountain Home Police officer on patrol in the area of Highway 5 North and Hospital Drive spotted Cooper southbound on Highway 5 North in the vehicle.
The officer turned around and began a pursuit of the vehicle Cooper was driving. Cooper stopped on West Sixth Street and was arrested without further incident.
During a search, the officer located a plastic bag containing a white crystal substance, later field testing positive for methamphetamine, on Cooper’s person, along with a small bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Cooper is charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving while license suspended.
Cooper’s active case file includes charges connected to an incident in which he and 49-year-old Tommy Hitt of Clarkridge ran into an angry homeowner who lit into them and their vehicle with a baseball bat, after he discovered they had broken into his garage.
The original entry and theft at the garage was reported about 1:00 a.m. January 10th. The homeowner told investigators he went to investigate a noise and caught the two men in the act of taking items from his garage. The homeowner chased the pair but was unable to catch them.
The two thieves returned to the scene of the crime about an hour-and-a-half later and were again detected. The homeowner went outside and confronted the pair with the baseball bat. He managed to hit one of the men with the bat and struck the vehicle the pair was driving as well.
Hitt received prison time in March related to a string of crimes.
