A Marion County woman, 32-year-old Evelynn Campbell of Yellville, was being escorted to the front office of the Marion County Detention Center on June 27th to meet with a bail bondsman, when she ran out the front door. Her escape occurred as Campbell and the bail bondsman had a disagreement when she was informed of the cash down payment of her bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit released Friday, Campbell ran from the sheriff’s department property into the Stone Hill Apartments complex, where she was captured.
Back at the jail, Campbell was handcuffed to a security bench until she could be changed back into detention clothing and processed back into the system. While on the bench, she was able to slip her left hand out of the handcuffs and exited the front door of the jail.
Once in the closed administration office, Campbell found the front door locked. She then walked down the hallway, raised a window in the copier room, and exited the building through the opening.
The document notes, a difference of about an hour from the time Campbell was placed on the bench and the time she was discovered missing. A 911 caller from a resident at the same Stone Hill Apartment complex advised a white female was attempting to enter several residences. Deputies responded to the complex, where they located Campbell in unit 13 and took her into custody.
An affidavit for Campbell’s original arrest has not yet been filed in the online court records system. Online jail records with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office indicate she is being held on five charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. She now faces two felony charges of escape from a jail facility. Bond for the two escape charges was set at $25,000 and is conditional on Campbell not using or possessing drugs or alcohol.
Campbell is set to appear in Marion County Circuit Court Wednesday.
