A Mountain Home man is behind bars after being arrested for an early morning break-in at a store in Gamaliel. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 27-year-old Gavin Willis Stutts allegedly broke into Sandra D’s Grocery Store on Highway 101 and stole beer and cigarettes.

The sheriff said authorities were alerted by the store owner, who lives adjacent to the store, when her dogs started barking at 2:20 Friday morning and she saw a man inside the store.

The man fled the scene before deputies arrived, but video footage from the store’s security system showed the suspect had thrown a rock through the front door to gain entry. Based on the video from the store, deputies believed the suspect was Stutts.

The Mountain Home Police Department was alerted to watch for the vehicle the man was driving. He was located a short time later and taken into custody.

Stutts is charged with a felony count of commercial burglary and a misdemeanor count of theft of property. He is being held without bond.

Sheriff Montgomery says the Mountain Home Police Department is investigating an incident in the city in which Stutts is also a suspect.

This is the fifth time Stutts has been booked into the Baxter County Detention Center since 2011.
