To get in on the fun, Petty aficionados can submit photos they’ve taken of or with Tom, video footage from a Petty and The Heartbreakers concert or “any expression of love for the band that they’ve photographed and cherished throughout the years.”
The video will celebrate the 40-year relationship that Tom had with his faithful followers. Photos and clips can be uploaded at TomPetty.com/FanVideo.
American Treasure is a 60-track collection featuring previously unreleased tracks, rarities, alternate versions of well-known tunes, deep cuts and live performances. It was compiled and curated by Petty’s daughter Adria and wife Dana, along with founding Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, and Tom’s frequent studio collaborator Ryan Ulyate.
The collection will be available in multiple configurations, including a Super Deluxe Limited Edition box set featuring four CDs, an 84-page hardbound book, a lithograph of the cover art and replicas of four handwritten Petty lyric sheets. An American Treasure also will be released as a standard 26-track, two-CD set and a Deluxe Edition featuring the four CDs and a 54-page book.
Over at Tom’s official YouTube channel, you can now watch a video for American Treasure‘s first single, “Keep a Little Soul,” a previously unreleased recording from 1982. It features previously unseen footage of the group.
Petty died on October 2 at age 66 of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
